Job Summary
The Harris Health System Behavioral Health Throughput Nurse (BHTN) has the primary responsibility for safe and efficient throughput of patients with psychiatric conditions. The BHTN collaborates with multiple Harris Health System departments, medical staff, and external stakeholders to ensure effective utilization of resources to meet patient care needs. The BHTN leads interdisciplinary teams to improve throughput systems and processes for the Psychiatric population at Harris Health System. The BHTN monitors and communicates the status of psychiatric capacity, ensures that appropriate measures are undertaken when impending bed shortages arise, and identifies and addresses throughput barriers. The BHTN serves as a resource to Harris Health System Leadership Team in areas related to organization-wide patient flow and complies with established standards as established by professional national and state nursing organizations, local regulatory agencies, and institutional policies and procedures. The BHTN upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior and adheres to the Scope and Standards of Psychiatric-Mental Health nursing practice. The BHTN mentors others; role models professionalism; and participates in professional and community activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Degrees:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Holds at least one on the following in nursing: Bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree. (Masters of Science Nursing, preferred)
License & Certifications:
Register Nurse; Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing within the State of Texas.
Related professional nursing clinical specialty certification within two (2) years of employment.
Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
Other certificates as required by unit/service.
Work Experience: Three (3) years of work experience in clinical acute inpatient care in a hospital setting; Two (2) years Behavioral Health/Emergency nursing experience preferred
Management Experience: One (1) year management or nursing supervisory experience preferred.
Communication Skills: Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact), Writing/ Reports
Proficiencies: Personal Computer, MS Word
