Job Summary

The Patient Care Assistant II (PCA II) is accountable for supporting patient care activities, under the supervision of a registered nurse, on inpatient nursing units. The PCA II works closely with the charge nurse and staff nurses to assure patient care needs are met. The PCA II performs patient care activities, as delegated, and adheres to patient safety measures. The PCA II is proficient in the performance of basic patient care activities, medical terminology, communication, organizational, and computer skills. The PCA II demonstrates and role models personal and professional effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
High School diploma or or GED plus technical skills/training appropriate to the specialty area.

Licenses & Certifications:
- Certified Nurse Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant; Nursing students actively attending an accredited nursing program are exempt of certification requirement provided a satisfactory completion of first clinical/foundations course.
- Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
- SAMA certification within 90 days of hire.
- EKG, and/or Phlebotomy competency validation required, as applicable to specialty area within 6 months of hire.
- Other certificates as required by unit/service/clinic.

Work Experience: Two (2) years related clinical experience (experience in nursing program clinical rotations is applicable)

Communication Skills: Above Average Verbal Communication (Heavy Public Contact)

Proficiencies: Personal Computer, MS Word, Typing
