Job Summary:

The Patient Care Assistant Apprentice (PCAA) is accountable for supporting patient care activities, under the supervision of a registered nurse, on inpatient nursing units. The -PCAA works closely with the charge nurse and staff nurses to assure patient care needs are met. The PCAA performs patient care activities, as delegated, and adheres to patient safety measures. The PCAA is competent in the performance of basic patient care activities, medical terminology, communication, organizational, and computer skills. The PCAA demonstrates personal and professional effectiveness. The apprenticeship position will last a total of one (1) year.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
High School Diploma or GED

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) / Program; Must be enrolled or have successfully completed a state- approved, accredited CNA program.


Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross approved program completed by the end of the of the first month of hire.

Work experience:
No Experience required

Language:
Spanish (preferred), bilingual skills (preferred)

Communication Skills:
Above Average Verbal Communication (Heavy Public Contact)

Proficiencies:
MS Word (novice) P.C. (novice), Typing

Job Attributes

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities: Medical Terms, Other; EKG and Phlebotomy competency validation by completion of apprenticeship program.

Work Schedule: Flexible; Must attend Houston Community College (HCC) sponsored program as applicable to the role.
